Awards Announced at Fall Show Opening

Alix Jones

This past weekend The Bennington Center for the Arts held an opening reception for their two fall exhibitions, The Collective Members’ Show and the Artists for the New Century. Artists from as far away as California, Arizona and North Carolina were in attendance for the events held at the Center in their honor.

The Members’ Show, now on display, is the inaugural exhibition for BCA’s new artist membership group, The Collective, which includes over seventy talented representational artists from across the country. Signature, Master and Artist members submitted work for this fall show and the Signature members selected the fifty pieces of two and three dimensional artwork that are now on display.

The second show that was opened this past Saturday was Artists for the New Century. Art of the West, Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air and Southwest Art Magazines, each well respected national art publications, assisted BCA by nominating artists to be included in the show.  The artists each selected a piece of artwork that best represented their talents and sent it to Bennington for this collaborative exhibition.  This show brings almost sixty artists together with all work available for sale.

The opening reception, which culminated with the announcement of the awards, was well attended by both participating artists and area art-lovers alike.  With free admission all day, many people visited during business hours to enjoy the art and to visit with those that created it.

Fine Art Connoisseur and Southwest Art each selected an artist to receive a full page ad in an upcoming issue. Coincidentally, the winner for both was Hiu Lai Chong with her piece Into the City. The Bennington Award went to Rachel Pettit’s oil painting, Alpine Mist. The winners from the Laumeister Fine Art Competition as judged by California artist Calvin Liang were announced as well and cash prizes were awarded. Naomi Shachar received First Place for her painting, The Fisherman;  Jonathan Stasko received Second Place for The Line Up and William Schneider received the Third Place award for A Deeper Meaning.

TICKET PACKAGES are also available!

Story Nights happen at the Catamount Tap House once a month where folks come to tell short, true stories without prompts; a format based on The Moth Radio Hour.  This "story slam" event at the Bennington Center for the Arts will benefit the Bennington Mural Project, a community initiative to bring art into outdoor spaces in Downtown Bennington and beyond.

Sunday, August 27 : BKBX OPEN SHARE STUDIO

Broken Box Mime Theater  (BKBX) will close out their residency at the Bennington Center for the Arts with an Open Studio session.  Join us on Sunday, August 27th at 2pm to learn about contemporary mime, collaborative process, and how simple storytelling can be a vehicle for impactful theater. This engaging, informal presentation with the company is open to all!

Winners of the 2016 New York Innovative Theatre Awards for Outstanding Ensemble, Performance Art, and Choreography/Movement, BKBX is back in the studio to create new work that activates the imagination of their audiences, contemporizes the art of mime, and reminds us all of the power of simple storytelling.  Set to lights and music, completed pieces range from realistic to metaphorical, heart-wrenching to hilarious, cinematic to intimate and everything in between, held together by the belief that great theater requires little ornamentation, only great vision.

Admission is "pay what you can" and all ages are encouraged to attend.  Funds received will go directly to the artists.

A generous donor will provide a dollar for dollar match for the admissions collected from this event and that match will be applied to the Bennington Center for the Arts performance fund. This is an excellent opportunity for you to support to both your local venue and the artists whom we serve!

The Bennington Center for the Arts will be offering a 10% discount on any new memberships or renewals made on this day which, among other benefits, will allow you free access to our galleries and exhibits year round!

Artists for the New Century

The Bennington

The Bennington Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that invitations have been sent out for our upcoming show, Artists for the New Century. Exhibited only every 5 years, Artists for the New Century offers a unique opportunity to celebrate distinguished members of the fine art community.

Artists were hand-selected by the editors of 5 prominent fine art magazines: American Art Collector, Art of the West, Fine Art Connoisseur, PleinAir Magazine, and Southwest Art. The editors were asked to select artists whose work they have noticed to be consistently strong, and who they feel deserve to be recognized for their talents.

These artists will each send in a piece they feel is indicative of their body of work, and pieces will be exhibited at The Bennington from September 9th to December 23rd, 2017. Of the work exhibited, each magazine will select one artist to be featured with a full-page ad or editorial. We are excited to once again feature strong artists who will continue to be important in the art world for years to come.

Wildscapes has Opened!

The Bennington

As of June 11th 2016, our Wildscapes exhibit has opened to the public in place of our annual Art of the Animal Kingdom exhibition. We've hosted and loved AAK for 20 years but felt that we wanted to open the show to more diversity. While the show still features wildlife works of art of all varieties, it also now features landscapes and seascapes that depict the beauty of the world we live in.
